Special thanks go to the client, for supplying some of the before pictures for this page.

These two pieces were brought in with extensive damage on both lids and on one of the Vase bases.

Both lids had been badly damaged with old repair attempts.
One had been broken into 8 pieces and also had 3 pieces missing with the damage including the area of the backstamp.
The other had also been badly glued with much of the old brown glue remaining, and had a chip to the finial two other larger chips missing and was in about 5 pieces.

The one Vase had the base badly glued and had been in 3 pieces with a large bolt and metal plate rusted to the inside.
It also had a chip missing and 2 large metal staples on the inside of the rim.

The two lids pieces were dismantled and carefully cleaned and after working out the order in which they had to be adhered, the gradual process of gluing could begin. the pieces were glued together using a specialist two part epoxy, then once set the remaining cracks were colour filled with the same epoxy which was tinted with coloured powder pigments to match to minimise the over painting required.

The lids were then painted including the backstamps and gilding and polished to match.

The Base was dismantled after carefully removing the metal bolt going through the middle, the staples were also carefully removed.
The hairline cracks on the vase base were stabilized to prevent them spreading any further, and the chips were colour filled before painting could begin.

The repairs were all painted with the background first using Cold Glaze with dry powder pigments to colour. Finally the gilded areas were also painted back in.
